Focus and Scope

The JMETC is a re-creation of an earlier publication by the Teachers College Columbia University Program in Mathematics and Education. As a blind peer-reviewed, semi-annual journal, it is intended to provide dissemination opportunities for writers of practice-based or research contributions to the general field of Mathematics Education. Each issue of the JMETC will focus upon an educational theme or issue. The JMETC will have a distinctive niche in the world of education publishing. Our readers are educators from pre K-12 and college and university levels, and from many different disciplines and job positions - teachers, principals, superintendents, professors of education, and other leaders in education.


Section Policies


The journal features full reports (approximately 3500 to 4500 words) and short reports (approximately 500 to1500 words). Full reports describe findings from specific research, experiments, projects, innovations, or practices that contribute to advancing scholarly knowledge in mathematics education. Short reports (previously “Notes from the field”) provide examples, commentary, and/or dialogue about practices out in the field of mathematics education or mathematics teacher education; examples from classroom experience are encouraged.

Open Access Policy

All content of the journal is freely available immediately upon publication. There are no article processing charges (APCs) nor article submission charges.
